Travel Tips

Before Leaving For the Airport

* Check the status of your flight at least 24 hours prior to your departure time:
o Northwest Airlines – nwa.com, 1-800-225-2525
o Frontier Airlines – frontierairlines.com, 1-800-432-1359
o United Airlines – united.com, 1-800-864-8331
o Delta Airlines – delta.com, 1-800-221-1212
* Allow plenty of time: It may take some time to park, check luggage and go through security screening, especially if you are traveling with infants, young children, elderly or disabled persons.
* Check security screening wait times: For air travel security information visit tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel or contact your local airport.
* Carry-on baggage: Generally limited to one carry-on bag plus one personal item. Personal items include laptops, purses, small backpacks, briefcases, or camera cases. Airlines may use Express carriers for service to the Rapid City Regional Airport. If you are traveling on an Express carrier, you may need to gate check your carry on due to limited space. Ask at check-in if your carry-on bag will require a gate check tag.

At The Airport

* Arrive early: Airlines have cut off times for checking bags. Check with your airline for details.
* Traveler identification: Have a valid photo I.D., driver’s license or passport ready at the ticket counter. Most airlines do not require a child under the age of 18 to have a picture I.D.
* Security Screening: Become familiar with the latest security measures to help save time at the airport. Air travel security information is available online at tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel.
* Only ticketed passengers are allowed to enter the concourses. Demonstrated-need passes are available from your airline at check-in if you need to accompany a minor, elderly or handicapped traveler to or from the gate.
